Solana's second-generation mobile phone "Seeker" has exceeded 140000 pre orders and is expected to be launched in mid-2025
According to The Block, Solana Mobile, the smartphone division of Solana Labs, a memory blockchain development company, revealed on TOKEN2049 in Singapore on Thursday that its second-generation memory blockchain phone is called "Solana Seeker" and is expected to be released in mid-2025.
Emmett Hollyer, General Manager of Solana Mobile, stated in an interview with The Block that the name "Seeker" was inspired by a famous quote from the late British writer and speaker Alan Watts, which accurately conveyed the essence of the device and its users. Hollyer added:
The name Saga describes the story of bringing Web3 mobile devices on Solana to life, while Seeker is about what this device can achieve
Solana Mobile's first mobile phone, Saga, was launched in May 2023. Although it successfully attracted widespread market attention, its initial sales performance was not ideal. However, the airdrop rewards distributed to mobile phone users have led to a surge in market demand for Saga phones.
In January of this year, Solana's second-generation phone opened for pre order under the name "Chapter 2", and the airdrop of memes also stimulated demand for the new phone. According to Solana Mobile, its pre order volume has currently exceeded 140000 units, spread across 57 countries. Hollyer stated that Seeker, developed in collaboration with hardware company Fxtec, is expected to be shipped by mid-2025.
Solana Seeker's features
Solana Mobile stated that the community's response to Seeker's phone has inspired other ecosystem teams to build dApps (decentralized applications), rewards, and features for it before its launch.
Solana Seeker's features include its Seed Vault Wallet, described as a cryptocurrency wallet designed specifically for mobile devices that natively integrates a self hosted Seed Vault built into Solana phones, developed in collaboration with Solflare.
Hollyer said, "Now you only need to click twice to send transactions, and you can choose between main mode and burner mode to ensure peace of mind and save time, and you no longer have to worry about account management issues
In addition to improved hardware specifications, Seeker phones also include a new version of Solana dApp Store, which improves the discoverability of applications such as payments, DeFi (decentralized finance), DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure), NFT, AI, and gaming.
This new phone will also feature a Genesis Token, a unique, soul bound (non transferable) NFT that unlocks exclusive third-party rewards, access, discounts, and content throughout the Solana ecosystem. Hollyer also stated that the Chapter 2 Preorder Token will help maintain the flow of rewards until Seeker is launched.
In order to coincide with the Solana Breakpoint conference after TOKEN2049, Solana Mobile has once again launched a pre order price of $450 for "early founders". After the event ends on September 21st, the price of Solana Seeker will be restored to $500.
